The most difficult challenge for a photographer is to photograph their own newborns.

In May we were blessed with the arrival of our daughter, Nina Sofia Anna.

I must confirm that she was the most difficult client I have ever photographed!

She is a gift, bring us happiness and joy and we are all so in love with her! The boys adore her and it’s so sweet to see the three siblings together.

What a gorgeous family! So much love going on and a proud big brother. Sometime taking newborn pictures with older siblings could be tricky. It all depends on the sibling’s age but in my experience the most difficult ones are the brothers or sisters between 18 and 36 months. It’s an age where the kids are discovering themselves, they are trying out what they can and cannot do and a little baby has just arrived in the family taking away some of the attention they were used to have. So, especially in the first few weeks, you might experience that your toddler is not exactly behaving himself. It will go on for a while until your big boy or girl will see that mum and dad are not going anywhere but they are there for him/her. The important thing is to make sure to include your toddler with the care of the baby, dedicating time to him when your newborn is sleeping and reassuring him with your presence.

Daniel, the big boy in this pictures was just amazing! No tantrums, no tears and especially so much Love for his new little brother!

I have some serious catch up to do on the blog! So many newborn sessions and maternity still to publish!

For now let me introduce you to Elisabetta! What a sweet little girl! Her mum and I connected immediately as her experience at birth was really similar to mine when I had my first boy. We lost lots of blood and had to have quite a few transfusions. But everything is forgotten when you look at your newborn baby peacefully asleep next to you.

They are our angels on earth!

At his newborn shoot Keyaan was definitely a PRO!!! He slept for the whole session and gave us so many lovely smiles. He was so asleep that I have decided to try the hanging pose in the scarf. I would usually leave that pose at the end of the session and would only do it with super sleepy babies and Keyaan just rocked it!

It’s lovely to see the different facial expressions that he pulled out in one photo shoot! I can imagine him to become a great actor. Mum and Dad were so sweet and relaxed while I was working with their little one! You see, we have a comfortable sofa at the studio for parents that need to relax and rest during the newborn shoot. Tea, coffee and refreshments are there too…as I believe that as a new parents there are not enough treats during the first days of life of their newborn and I like to think that a little special treatment may make their day!

A big congratulations to Kate winner of our January’s Newborn Photography Competition! I was so happy when her name was randomly picked (video here). When she entered the competition she mentioned how difficult her second pregnancy had been and that winning would have surely cheered her up!

Oscar’s newborn shoot was scheduled at the beginning of February but unfortunately both boys caught Chicken Pox. So we delayed the photo shoot until Oscar and William were feeling better. By the time we did their Photography Session,  Oscar was over 4 weeks old and he was brilliant!!! He held the poses perfectly and did some lovely shots with his eyes opened.

I love taking pictures of awake newborns as later on when they are about 7/8 months and showing a little bit more of their personalities, mum and dad can look back at their baby first photo shoot and realise that those eyes were already speaking and showing so much about their baby!

And his big brother was an angel and so proud of his little newborn baby! He was so careful with him and very gentle. And you can see how much he loved cuddling him!

Can you feel the love? Can newborn pictures show this wonderful feeling? I believe they can and when your kids will look back at them they will see how much love their parents already had for their new baby. When taking pictures of this beautiful family I watched the love between mum and dad and the love for their little one! This is what I want to capture. The simplicity of being a newborn, the love between the parents and the love for their new baby. I want to gift my clients with invaluable memories so that when they will look back the the pictures they will remember the feelings they had during those first few days as new parents. I want these babies to see what their parents were experiencing, how much love was going on!

I met Tory’s mum through MatchUpMums, a wonderful new service that puts together like-minded mums or mums-to-be in your local area, for friendship and support. As with my second baby I didn’t have too much time to socialise while I was working on my business I wanted to meet new mums and MatchUpMums did an excellent job putting together a new group of friends! I was really pleased when Tami asked me to book a newborn session with me and allowing me to capture these precious memories for her and her husband. Tami, thank you so much for believing in my photography!

One of the best smiles I have ever witnesses during a newborn session was definitely the one that Willem gave me! Taking pictures of newborn babies it can be hard, and you need to be very patient and wait for the right moment. You need to allow your little guest to settle in the new environment and follow his needs. Stop when he needs to feed, when he needs mummy’s cuddles and make sure that he is comfortable at all times. Willem was exceptionally good. Not only he gave me some beautiful smiles but he slept through the whole session. Mum and dad were able to relax and enjoy and for once someone else took care of the details of this event… Willem’s mum is the founder of ArrangeMeA and she is superb in what she does…organising spectacular events taking care of every last little detail. I am so happy I was able to deliver some precious newborn pictures for them to treasure forever and I hope I will be meeting this little boy and his family some other time in the future!

I haven’t been really good with my blog recently…I have a lot to catch up!

This pretty lady has a lovely name that suits her so well! Guess what mum does for a living? During the newborn photography session mum came to me and asked if we could use a prop that a friend made for her as it would have meant a lot to her to have a picture with her precious little one and this lovely prop. What I love about this session is that I was able to capture some pictures with Emily’s eyes open, showing a little bit of her curious personality.
